Just something I've been thinking about recently after meetups at uni.
Discussing how fickle an internet audience can be in terms of support, interaction, bandwagons and the likes. One minute something or someone could be popular, the next minute the crowd has moved onto something else.
Do you find yourself often unfollowing artists, and why?
Is it because you no longer like their art, or their subject matters?
Have you moved onto other fandoms?
Or are you no longer interested in them as a person?
For me here on dA, it's VERY rare for me to unwatch someone.
If I initially watch them, it means I like their art. Whether that be their use of colour, posing, characters, technique, etc. Even if the user goes through an experimental stage or starts uploading different subject matters, I'm still interested in how they portray their work.
I've only ever unwatched people a few times, and it's usually to do with bad attitudes or unnecessary drama that I just don't want to see.
I see quite often people talking about becoming less popular when they stop drawing a certain thing. For example, they no longer do fanart of a particular series and all the watchers who were there only for that fandom content become uninterested and unfollow.
I know that the number of followers isn't important, and that you should be striving to improve your skills and diversity as an artist. So trying to pander to an audience can be somewhat counter productive. However, when it causes people to become so demotivated because they aren't getting the comments, advice, conversation and the basic sense of feedback art sites are designed for... you can see how this can be a problem.
For me, the bottom line comes to; Draw what you want.
That's my number one rule for when people become frustrated with such issues.
Still interesting to think about, tho.
What do you think? Do you often regulate your watch feed? How do you feel as an artist about these issues?
Feel free to share thoughts below :3c
Until next time, stay motivated!

Any of y'all from the 2010 sparkle dragon days still kickin about?
I've been so nostalgic for old dA times so I logged back in to check what's been happening and if any of my mutuals are still creating art.
I've been spending most of my time on Paleo Pines' development.
(If y'all don't know, it was a game idea I pitched back in 2019 that's now fully funded and currently being developed in the indie game st

Tell me your favourite Dinosaur!
Howdy!
Time for possible the best conversation starter! Favourite Dinos!
This question comes in two parts...
1. What's your favourite Dinosaur(s)?
2. What's an obscure/underrated dino you wished was in media more?
(And yes, for conversation's sake pterosaurs, archosaurs, synapsids and whatever other non-dino reptiles can be included :> )
In case you didn't know, I'm developing a casual dino themed farm/social sim!
And although it's heavily stylised, I want to keep the dinos fairly accurate and have a large roster of creatures!
Obviously, we'll initially include the fan favourites and well known dinosaurs, with a sprinkle of paleo-c
Tell me your new year's resolutions!
Howdy all, hope you had a nice n restful christmas :>
2019 is approaching and I thought it'd be nice to discuss some of our goals for the coming year!
(I know a NYR's tend to cause a lot of eyerolls, but I think setting goals can be extremely valuable for artists, and by talking to others about it you sort of...speak it into existence?)
For myself, I have the obvious "Improve art" and "get into shape" goals. But I also have a more specific one:
Get 1,000 followers on Twitter and/or Instagram
Yeah, I know this seems really arbitrary...But lets be real, more people interacting with your art is extremely rewarding and helps you strive to

I only ever unwatch someone if they start being rude or if their art takes a dramatic shift towards inappropriate subjects.
