In more exciting news, anyone else see today's Pokemon Direct?!
Not only do you get your X & Y starter, but the professor gives you ONE OF THE KANTO STARTERS TOO! <3
And even more exciting, the Kanto starters have MEGA-EVOLUTIONS.
Daaaamn! I was skeptical about mega-evolutions for quite some time. And unsure how they would handle designs of the original starters, ones that a lot of us hold dear to us. But I'm pleasantly surprised with how cool these look! They stay true to the original design and not change it beyond recognition. But they add some awesome features that really make them look badass.
And before I get gen-wunners on my tail with how this sucks, consider something.
Including the original Pokemon in new games is not necessary.
If Nintendo just wanted to sell games to kids, they would advertise all the shiny new Pokemon and features.
But the fact that they've been going back to their roots and including some of the most beloved Pokemon of the older fans is something really amazing. They KNOW there are many loyal fans to the series.
This is them giving something back. A homage to the first time we picked our starters.
They're really looking out for the older fans, and I'm loving it.
Whether or not those designs are for you is your opinion.
I understand that you can't be expected to like every little thing!
However I just hope you all can see just how important it is that Pokemon respects its roots and is really playing up the nostalgia for us first gen players.
So, what do you guys think? What mega-evolution would you like to see?
(Personally I'd like to see Gyarados with a Chinese dragon-stlye design. Maybe little arms and big-ass horns!)
Venasaur barely changed, but for the flower on its head, and blastoise just got extra guns, but Charizard looks sleek, fast and insanely badass now.
Is anyone not going to pick Charizard? XD
Venusaur's little flower is so adorable though haha.
And yeah, he's the obvious favourite so far xD
And yesss, I'm so excited for all these things ;v;
And YES ughh...I'm not a big fan of it ;~;
And that's right. Kinda like Pokemon super-saiyans.
And yeah, that sucks major ass. Hoping for more updates on that :I
And I was going to get Chespin anyway SO IT ALL WORKS OUT NICELY
...wait wait wait do we get our Gen 1 at the start of the game?!
These mega forms just look really frickin cool. Venusaur has been turned into a walking jungle with an ability that makes it take normal damage from 2 of it's most dangerous weaknesses. Charizard looks much more sleek while gain drought, an ability that is a godsend to this Pokemon since it boosts fire attacks, reduces water attack, and makes solarbeam an instant attack to help deal with water and rock types. And Blastoise has went from turtle with shoulder canons to turtle shaped mech with it's new Mega launcher ability.
I have no complaints about any of these things.
I see where you're coming from about possibly being overpowered, but hey maybe we can hope they'll make the beginning of the games and the gyms a little more challenging? :> Or MAYBE you don't get the Kanto starters until further in the game, like in HG/SS. After you beat the elite four. Who knows! Still freakin cool, otherwise.
And you said it, the additional abilities are freakin sweet and will put a more interesting spin on competitive battling. October's gonna be awesome!
But I'd love to see a mega Houndour or Nidoking
OH MAN those'd be awesome!
I'm not too sure, but it was implied that all/most Pokemon will have a mega-evolution (at least ones that are fully formed)
Just speculation at the minute though!
